ABOUT SOREX
The Society for the Rights of the Excluded and Disempowered (SOREX) is a Nigerian non-governmental organization working at the intersection of climate justice, social protection, urban resilience, and inclusive innovation. SOREX focuses on vulnerable populations and informal economies in Nigeria's coastal and urban contexts.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
SOREX is implementing the "Heat Resilience Microfinance and Insurance for Informal Workers in Lagos" project. At the centre of this project is the Climate Risk Finance Module (CRFM) – a digital platform that ingests climate data, applies parametric triggers, and delivers automated payouts to informal workers during extreme heat events.
The CRFM is designed as a modular, API-driven platform that will:
Ingest real-time climate data (heat, flood) from Nigerian sources (NiMet, etc.)
Apply configurable parametric trigger logic
Manage beneficiary enrollment and consent
Integrate with Nigerian payment providers (Paystack, Flutterwave, etc.)
Communicate with beneficiaries via SMS/USSD
Maintain full auditability and financial-grade security
Allow future "plug-in" by insurers and financial institutions
We are seeking a technical leader who can bridge the gap between climate risk finance and fintech engineering – someone who can oversee the design, development, and deployment of this platform from the ground up.
The Climate Fintech Technical Lead must have a strong command of the full technology stack chosen for the CRFM, which includes Node.js, NestJS, Next.js, React, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL. The role demands deep expertise in designing and building secure, auditable, and scalable financial systems. This includes proficiency in API development, database modeling, payment integrations, and financial transaction workflows.
Cloud infrastructure experience is also essential, particularly with AWS, containerization using Docker, and CI/CD pipelines. The Technical Lead must be able to oversee the platform’s architecture, deployment, and ongoing operational reliability while ensuring it meets financial-grade security and data protection standards.
Beyond technical skills, the role requires strong leadership and communication abilities. The Technical Lead will manage external vendors, mentor developers, conduct code reviews, and define technical standards. They must also be able to explain complex technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders, including the Project Director and funders.
