Role Overview

Lead a comprehensive Database Environment Assessment for a major Nigerian telecommunications provider. You will audit, optimize, and architect large-scale, mission-critical MariaDB, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL deployments to ensure maximum performance, security, and high availability (HA) in a high-traffic Telco environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Infrastructure & Linux Performance: Audit replication and clustering topologies across all three platforms: MariaDB Galera Cluster and primary/replica setups, MongoDB replica sets and sharding strategies, and PostgreSQL streaming/logical replication. Assess storage engine configuration (InnoDB, WiredTiger) and PostgreSQL tuning (shared_buffers, autovacuum, WAL). Leverage deep Linux/Unix system knowledge to diagnose OS-level bottlenecks, disk I/O, and resource utilization.

• High Availability & Connection Management: Evaluate HA and proxy layers, including MariaDB MaxScale, Patroni/repmgr for PostgreSQL, PgBouncer/Pgpool-II, and MongoDB election and failover behaviour, to eliminate single points of failure.

• Project Management & Delivery: Manage end-to-end assessment workflows, set project milestones, manage technical deliverables, and align cross-functional teams to meet deadlines.

• Security & Regulatory Compliance: Conduct gap analyses on RBAC, encryption (at-rest/in-transit), and audit logging (MariaDB Audit Plugin, pgAudit, MongoDB auditing) to align with NDPR and Telco regulatory standards.

• Data Modeling & Architecture: Review relational schemas (MariaDB, PostgreSQL) and document models (MongoDB), along with indexing, partitioning, and query plans, to handle millions of concurrent subscribers and Call Detail Record (CDR) processing efficiently. Advise on the right platform for each workload.

• Capacity Planning & Disaster Recovery: Build a 12–24 month infrastructure growth roadmap and validate cross-region failover and backup/restore protocols (Mariabackup, pgBackRest/Barman, mongodump and Ops Manager backups), including RPO/RTO testing.

• Executive Stakeholder Reporting: Translate technical insights into strategic "State of the Database" presentations and roadmaps for C-suite stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 8+ years in DBA and Database Architecture, with 5+ years of hands-on production experience across MariaDB, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL.

• MariaDB Expertise: Strong experience with MariaDB 10.6/10.11/11.x, Galera Cluster, MaxScale, replication tuning, and performance diagnostics (Performance Schema, slow query log, EXPLAIN, Percona Toolkit).

• MongoDB Expertise: Strong experience with MongoDB 6.0/7.0+, replica sets and sharding, Ops Manager / Cloud Manager, and performance tools (mongostat, mongotop, Database Profiler).

• PostgreSQL Expertise: Strong experience with PostgreSQL 14+, streaming and logical replication, Patroni, PgBouncer, vacuum and bloat management, partitioning, and performance analysis (pg_stat_statements, EXPLAIN ANALYZE, pgBadger).

• Linux Administration: Hands-on expertise in Linux/Unix operating systems, shell scripting, and containerized deployments (Kubernetes/OpenShift), including database operators.

• Project Management: Proven ability to manage complex technical projects, track deliverables, and run multi-phase database assessment lifecycles.

• Telco Domain Expertise: Track record supporting high-volume, low-latency, "Telco-grade" data environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• MariaDB Certified DBA, MongoDB Certified DBA, EDB Certified PostgreSQL Professional, or AWS/Azure Solutions Architect certifications.

• Certified PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile Scrum Master credentials.

• Experience migrating workloads between platforms (e.g., Oracle or MySQL to MariaDB/PostgreSQL).

• Familiarity with Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA).

• Experience with monitoring stacks such as ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), Prometheus/Grafana, or Percona Monitoring and Management (PMM).
